Dental implant is currently the most significant advancement in replacing lost teeth and achieving high aesthetic standards. Thanks to implants, the distress of tooth loss has become more manageable for everyone.

Tooth loss not only negatively impacts oral health but also triggers a cascade of consequences affecting overall well-being. One of the most apparent signs is the accelerated facial aging process, leading to sagging facial skin. Additionally, tooth loss acts as a barrier to confident communication for many patients. Hence, the emergence of the Implant dental implant method truly serves as a lifesaver, restoring a healthy smile and confidence in many people’s lives.

1. What is Dental Implant?

Dental implantation is a technique where an artificial tooth root (implant post) is placed into the jawbone to replace a missing tooth root. When bone cells naturally fuse to the surface of the implant, the dentist will proceed to create a prosthetic jaw, porcelain crown, or porcelain dental bridge on top, ensuring they remain stable and do not shift in the mouth.

A dental implant consists of three main components:

Implant Post

The implant post acts as an artificial tooth root, supporting a single tooth, dental bridge, or denture to replace the missing tooth. They are designed in a screw-shaped form, resembling a screw, which the dentist implants into the jawbone at the site of the missing tooth. Additionally, because they are made from pure Titanium, the implant post is very safe for the body and ensures excellent biological compatibility.

Abutment Connector

The abutment is the middle component, responsible for linking the implant post below and the porcelain crown above. Abutments are made from Titanium or Zirconia materials.

Porcelain Tooth Crown

This is the porcelain artificial tooth that resembles the shape and function of a natural tooth. They are attached above the implant post through the abutment connector.

2. Crown on Implant

Porcelain restoration on implants is considered the final stage to complete an implant procedure. It enables customers to comfortably chew just like with natural teeth.

The process of dental implant treatment typically involves two stages:

  • Placing the implant post into the jawbone.
  • Placing the porcelain crown after the post has integrated with the jawbone.

During this process, the implant post functions as a real tooth root. Subsequently, within 2-6 months, once the post has integrated with the jawbone, the dentist will proceed to attach the porcelain crown on top through the Abutment connector.

3. Advantages of Dental Implants

Previously, most patients who lost teeth often opted for removable dentures due to their low cost, ease of use, and especially affordability. However, removable dentures are only a temporary solution for tooth loss, and prolonged use can lead to many unforeseen complications for overall health:

  • Removable dentures only restore the appearance of teeth above the gum line and completely lack tooth roots below. Therefore, bone loss in the jaw, sunken jawbone, and receding gums will occur after a period of use, significantly affecting chewing function.
  • Jawbone loss due to the use of removable dentures accelerates the facial aging process, leading to sunken cheeks and sagging facial skin.
  • After some time of use, removable dentures become loose and prone to falling out.
  • Additionally, removable dentures have weak chewing force, thereby limiting chewing function and reducing the body’s ability to absorb nutrients, making individuals susceptible to digestive problems.

Faced with the limitations of removable dentures and the outstanding advancements in modern dental technology, dental implants have emerged to address all the shortcomings of removable dentures, while solving the root cause of tooth loss for millions of people. Below are the superior advantages of dental implants:

  • Dental implants have a structure similar to real teeth, up to 99%, including tooth roots and crowns. They restore chewing function just like natural teeth.
  • Implant teeth exist independently, are fixed, and do not intrude on neighboring teeth.
  • They completely prevent bone loss, sunken jaws, and facial aging.
  • They do not cause pain, discomfort, or looseness during use.
  • They address all cases of single tooth loss, multiple tooth loss, or full arch loss.
  • They have a lifetime usability.

4. Cases suitable for Dental Implants

Dental implants are suitable for most cases of tooth loss unless patients suffer from cardiovascular diseases or diabetes.

For cases of long-term tooth loss where the jawbone has experienced significant bone loss, patients can still undergo dental implantation after artificial bone grafting.

Dental implants can be applied to patients missing a single tooth, multiple teeth, or even entire dental arches.

5. How long does it take for a dental implant procedure?

The duration of a dental implant procedure depends on the oral condition of each individual

  • When a customer has just lost a tooth, the jawbone still has sufficient thickness, depth, and density, the process usually takes only 7 to 10 days.
  • However, when a customer has experienced long-term tooth loss and their bone has begun to deteriorate, they will need to undergo bone grafting, and the procedure will take up to 3-6 months to complete.
